Questions on Carpet Cleaning

Q: How long should I wait before I get my carpets cleaned?
A: Carpets are like filters. They accumulate particles of dirt, dust pollens, slats, & chemicals. All of these deposits get ground into your carpet. Vacuuming helps, but it does not eliminate pollens & pollutants.

Q: Which method of carpet cleaning should I use?
A: Two basic methods are used: the dry chemical method or hot water extraction. the chem dry method injects foam into your carpet which left to dry can then be vacuumed. Unfortunately, this method does not break down all pollutants and pollens which remain in your carpet. The hot water extraction injects hot water and then is immediately sucked back out of the fibers. The second method can be successful provided the right equipment is used. If not, water and pollutants remain in your carpet.

Q: What should I look for in a carpet cleaner?
A: Three different kinds of equipment are used for hot water extraction: truck mounted, portable extractors, and portable heated extractors. The latest portable models inject a heated water solution at 200° F which is immediately extracted under pressure of at least 200 psi (pressure per square inch) leaving your carpet virtually dry after a couple of hours.

Q: Isn't the lowest price the best?
A: Maybe! Some companies will quote you a price over the phone based on the square footage, not knowing how much soil there is, how much furniture needs to be moved, or what kind of carpet you have. some will send uncertified personnel who do not know how to remove certain stains.

Q: How should I choose the best cleaner?
A: Make sure you use a cleaner who has been trained and certified by the I.I.C.R.C. Ask questions about their training, what method of cleaning, and type of equipment they use. Then get a written estimate. The Heartland Carpet Cleaners have been trained and certified by the I.I.C.R.C. and will use an up to date extractor. This versatile machine provides adjustable psi pressures suitable for upholstery & all types of carpeting. It delivers over 200° F water with extraction of over 200 psi & up.
